Research Areas

Politics and television fiction.

Key areas of interest also include discourse and ideology; identity, stereotyping and comedy; crisis and media.

Current Research Project

The dissertation under the working title “Private television, public culture” proposes the study of Greek television fiction produced between 1989 and 2012 and broadcast by private television channels. Having as a starting point the year of the emergence of private television channels and reaching until the years that established Greece as the centre of the Eurozone crisis, an investigation of television fiction in terms of the framing of issues of economic and sociopolitical nature which emerged in contemporary Greek society is suggested.

By combining media, television and cultural studies, the dissertation emphasizes the contribution of fictional narratives to citizens’ understanding of public issues. What will ultimately be addressed is television fiction’s ideological role and the significance of its study within the wider context of media’s ideological functioning.
