About Nora Theorin

I am employed as a PhD student at JMG since January 2017. In the spring of 2015 i wrote a master's thesis in Political Science at the Department of Political Science at University of Gothenburg. Previous studies also includes Media and Communication Studies and Law.

After my graduation I worked as a research assistant for Dr. Emma Bäck at the Department of Psychology, University of Gothenburg. The research that I was involved in focused on political psychology and I was responsible for the data collection of the experimental parts of the projects "Extreme activism? Psychological explanations for protesting" and "The Political Psychology of Radicalization."

Research interests

I am especially interested in research that mainly focuses on micro level analysis - such as media effects on citizens, political psychology and public opinion. Furthermore, I am very interested in resarch about mechanisms behind attitudes toward immigration and voter support for radical right parties.

Current research project

My dissertation project focuses on media effects on attitudes toward immigration in Europe. The doctoral studentship is included in the research project "Role of European Mobility and its Impacts in Narratives, Detates and EU Reforms." The project is funded by Horizon 2020, the EU framework programme for research and Innovation. My principal role in the project is to investigate public attitudes and perceptions of migration and how these are influenced by specific types of media content and narratives. The research project will build upon panel surveys and a survey experiment conducted in seven European countries.
