In the mind of a party strategist: exclusive seminar series at JMG

News: Jun 10, 2019

This autumn, the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMG) will host a series of lectures on political communication.

"Strategists from all Riksdag parties will give our students a unique insight into what happens behind the scenes in politics", says Director of Studies Marie Grusell.

Representatives of the Swedish parties will be visiting JMG to tell us about their work in political communication.

They have all been active as press secretaries, party secretaries (equivalent to party chairpersons in some countries), election generals or head strategist for their respective parties during recent elections.

They will be talking about different types of strategic issues, concerning the formation and measurement of opinions, campaigning, political image, policy choices etc.

A student initiative

"It is great that we can offer this series of lectures", says Director of studies Marie Grusell. "High-level party representatives are not easily gathered. We are proud that they have chosen to visit us at JMG!"

She is especially happy that the idea for the seminars springs from the students themselves. The suggestion came up in the student council for Media and Communication studies.

Everyone welcome

Among those represented in the student council are the participants in the international Master´s Programme in Political Communication. The programme will start for the second time in September, and from the autumn term there will be around 40 students (1st and 2nd year) in the programme.

"Three of the events in the party strategist series will be in English and addressed specifically to the PolCom programme", says Programme coordinator Nicklas Håkansson. "However, all our students in media and communications or journalism as well as staff are invited."

Others who are interested are also welcome, but please be on time as the number of seats is limited!
