Elin Wägner: The writer,
the transboundary professional
and the managing editor

As part of the exploration of the Swedish history of journalism in the first part of the 20th century, with a focus on the breakthrough of modern journalism and with a gender perspective, three aspects of Elin Wägner’s work in the first two decades of the 1900s are analysed:

The writer Elin Wägner: What did she write and in what context?
The managing editor Elin Wägner: EW achieved a power position in Swedish journalism that was unique for a woman in the early 1900s. How did she do it? What strategies did she use?
The transboundary professional Elin Wägner: The significance of EW involvement in both daily and weekly press and in both journalism and fiction.
The concept of “transformation” is important in the project, meaning how the journalism affected society and vice versa. How can Elin Wägner be seen as an example of such a development?
